How does the Flex model differ from the original Carry-On?

The key difference is the Flex expansion feature, which is a wraparound zipper that adds an extra 2.25 inches (6 cm) of packing depth when you need it. The original Carry-On does not have this expansion feature, which makes the Flex version more versatile for trips where you might bring back extra items.
